Crisp Regional Hospital -- Patient Accounting Cordele , GA Non Clinical Full Time , Days Position Summary: Under the leadership of the VP CFO, the Director, Patient Financial Services is an active member of the Financial Services management team that delivers professional patient financial services and support that is consistent with the strategic vision, goals, philosophy and direction of Patient Financial Services and CRHS. The Director, Patient Financial Services is responsible for the overall day-to-day leadership of the patient accounting-related functions including customer service, billing, collections, cash applications and other ancillary functions related to the revenue cycle functions within the department. Basic Qualifications:

• Education: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Health Care Management. A Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Requires four to six years of work-related experience in accounting or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in healthcare-related accounting or bookkeeping is preferred with additional training in the area of collection practices, billing practices and customer service are crucial. Hands-on knowledge needed of billing and collections, including inpatient, outpatient, dialysis, and professional fees. Requires an understanding of the entire patient accounting process from front-end registration through to collections.
    • Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:
    • Assists the Vice President Chief Financial Officer in reviewing and re-negotiating all managed care contracts for the organization.
    • Coordinates and supervises the billing and collection of the health system's accounts receivables.
    • Prepares annual and strategic capital and operating budgets for the department in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Ensures that the department's expenses and staffing are managed within the framework of the budget.
    • Ensures all employee evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
    • Provides appropriate training and mentoring to direct reports and other staff members within the department.
    • Ensures that staff is aware of any policy or procedure changes in the organization.
    • Takes responsibility for own personal and professional growth and development.
    • Complies with all CRHS privacy policies and procedures including those implementing the HIPAA Privacy rule .
    • Attends in-service training, education programs and meetings as required or directed.
    • Adheres to established CRHS and departmental policies, procedures and objectives for quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
    • Performs other related job duties as assigned. Standards of Performance:
      • Monitors outgoing claims on a daily basis to ensure that the claims are being processed from Quadax and All Scripts/PayerPath and submitted within 48 hours. Reviews any outstanding issues with the applicable PAR.
      • Develops a process for monitoring all secondary claims to ensure they are processed accurately and timely.
      • Maintains accounts receivable records to ensure that the system's cash position is predictable.
      • Interacts with physicians and all hospital management in obtaining/providing information relating to areas assigned.
      • Provides informative information about accounts to patients or other payors in an understanding but effective manner.
      • Maintains all B/AR dictionaries including claim dictionaries and proration rules.
      • Maintains Medicare Credit Balance report and Medicare Bad Debt Log.
      • Provide overall direction to the departmental staff including setting realistic monthly goals, works with staff to achieve the departmental goals.
      • Reviews and evaluates the aged trail balances to ensure accounts are being worked in a timely and accurate manner. Reviews outstanding issues with department supervisors and other hospital directors to assist in resolution of difficult accounts.
      • Works closely with Utilization Review, Social Services, Health Information Management, and all other departments on denial and coding issues to resolve accounts in a proactive manner.
      • Stays current with all billing requirement deadlines for payers and communicates updates to staff in a timely manner so that filing deadlines are met.
      • Participates in education as required through mandatory department in-services and continuing education as measured by education and attendance records and maintenance of professional certification.
      • Demonstrates adherence to CRHS Standards of Behavior as measured by co-workers and supervisor observations.
      • Demonstrates reliability as measured by compliance with CRHS Time and Attendance policies.
      • Demonstrates professional conduct by maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPPA standards as measured by valid complaints given to the VP CFO.
