Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 12 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours (18:45 - 07:15) Experience: Minimum 2 years; first timers accepted depending on experience License: GA or Compact license required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIH Must-Have: Strong clinical skills in telemetry and cardiac care Ability to manage patients with acute and chronic health conditions Description: The patient population includes adults to geriatrics. Responsibilities include managing patients with acute on chronic heart failure, post-cardiac catheterization, chest pain, and unstable angina. Nurses will care for patients with irregular heart rhythms requiring administration of medications such as Amiodarone, as well as managing cases of acute coronary syndrome, sepsis, and syncope. Individuals may encounter patients with acute kidney injury, pneumonia, respiratory distress, and seizures. Additional care includes patients with pulmonary embolism, hypertension, small bowel obstruction, and lower GI bleed. In the Intermediate Care Unit/PCU/Stepdown, nurses will handle cases of decompensated heart failure on continuous intravenous medications, as well as managing DKA, AFIB with rapid ventricular response, and septic patients requiring vasopressors. Skills in caring for thoracic patients with chest tubes, managing CVAs and fresh tracheostomy patients are also essential. The nurse will support patients undergoing testing and procedures outside the unit with the need for portable monitoring. Staffing ratios in telemetry are typically 1:6, while IMCU ratios are generally 1:3 or 1:4 depending on medications administered. Compliance with all requirements is mandatory for timely onboarding. Holiday availability is expected as per department policy. Candidates must be available to complete all onboarding tasks promptly following contract signing. Flexibility for various shifts is preferred.
