Neonatal Transport RN The NICU is a Level III center with a Neonatal Transport team which typically sees an average census of 35-40 patients per day. The Neonatal Transport Nurse works both in the unit at the bedside, and when needed goes out on transport to one of our outlying facilities. We also have dedicated Neonatal Respiratory Therapists that also serve on the Transport team and go out on transport along with our Transport Nurse. The NICU Leadership is innovative, engaged and focused on quality outcomes for our patients. JOB SUMMARY Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients according to established standards and practices; functions within the guidelines of the protocols for the transport program. Duties include assessment of patients, developing, implementing, and evaluating plan of care; identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of emergency care for acutely ill neonates in collaboration with the neonatologist; responsible for obtaining pertinent maternal and neonatal histories, performing physical examinations of the neonate, and formulating differential diagnoses and care management plans; provides family-centered care, including psychosocial support, education, and transfer planning in conjunction with referral staff; maintains effective communication with referral staff and families; educates referral staff through informal teaching; initiates and participates in educational, research, professional, and organizational activities that contribute to improving patient care, the transport program operation, and the individual's own professional development. Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills. Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate. Flexible working hours required to provide 24 hour / 7 day / week coverage, including rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and on call. Must be able to work in a mobile environment. Indoor and outdoor environment with possible exposure to infectious, biological, and chemical agents. Occasionally requires working in proximity to sources of radiation. Work area includes riding in enclosed spaces such as ambulances. Work environment commonly provides exposure to high noise levels. WORKING CONDITIONS May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms. May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing from a state accredited school, RNs hired after January 1, 2017 must obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a state accredited school within 5 years of date of hire (Required) 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred) EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 2 - 3 years Experience in a Level III NICU within the last 5 years (Required) General Certifications BLS/BCLS PALS NRP Nursing Certifications STABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Have near normal hearing; Hear alarms/telephone/tape recorder/normal speaking voice Have near normal vision: Clarity of vision (both near and far), ability to distinguish colors Have good manual dexterity Have good eye-hand-foot coordination Ability to perform repetitive tasks/motion PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasionally within shift (1-33%) :(Climbing,Twist at waist,Reaching above shoulder) Frequently within shift (34-66%) :(Walking,Sitting,Bending/Stooping,Pushing/Pulling) Continuously within shift (67-100%) :(Standing) CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES Required Certifications/Licensures: Registered Nurse (RN) with current Georgia license, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS) Preferred Certifications/Licensures: AACN or NCC Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Certification CORE COMPETENCIES TEAMWORK & COMMUNICATION: Contributes to building a positive team spirit by offering assistance and support to co-workers, communicating clearly and effectively, and collaborating with others to ensure that team goals are consistently achieved.
